Crypto Charity Profile: The National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics (NAFC).

The National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics’ Mission

NAFCS aims “to ensure that the medically underserved have access to affordable quality health care.” They believe that all individuals, regardless of their age, sex, income, education, immigration status, ethnicity, color of skin, religion, or sexual orientation deserve to have access to affordable, dignified, and high-quality health care.

The organization was founded in 2001 by grassroots medical providers who were concerned at the gap in health care for the working poor, uninsured, and underinsured.

They achieve their mission by providing funding to NAFC member organizations, advocating and lobbying for better health care access, responding to emergencies and natural disasters, educating the public, implementing quality standards for member organizations, and addressing health equity issues.

Impacts

Over the past 5 years, NAFC has provided over $15 million in funding to member organizations to support a wide range of programs including expanding access to health care, disaster relief, COVID-19 relief, health equity, opioid addiction, and more.

Furthermore, through their public education efforts, they have worked to connect those in need with the approximately 1,400 free and charitable clinics and charitable pharmacies that exist throughout the USA.

In response to COVID-19, NAFC has set up COVID-19 testing sites across the country, and provided millions in direct relief to member organizations and to expand telehealth services and free and charitable clinics and pharmacies.
