3 - Inspiring crypto/blockchain quotes

“Beyond cryptocurrency contributions, what if blockchain technology could be used to make supply chains more efficient, transactions more transparent, and end world poverty through decentralized universal basic income as a form of unconditional cash vouchers? That would be a dream worth holding onto. Since our founding more than 100 years ago, Save the Children has reached more than 1 billion children. Perhaps the next Bitcoin billionaire can help us reach the next billion children.”

- Ettore Rosetti, Senior Advisor, Save the Children

“The negative environmental impact of cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin has been widely covered in the press in recent weeks and months, and their volatility has also been flagged as a cause for concern. Nevertheless, the UN believes that blockchain, the technology lying behind these online currencies, could be of great benefit to those fighting the climate crisis, and help bring about a more sustainable global economy.”

- United Nations Statement on Blockchain and Climate Change

“If digital economies and currencies have the potential to shape the lives of coming generations, it is important that we explore the opportunities they offer. That’s why the creation of our Cryptocurrency Fund is a significant and welcome step forward in humanitarian and development work."

- Henrietta Fore, Executive Director, UNICEF

2 - Reflections from this week’s blog posts

There have been statements made lately equating the crypto community to hard-right hyper capitalists. While this element does exist in the crypto and blockchain space, as it probably does in any space, it is certainly not reasonable to typecast such a large and diverse community with one label. Through my research into crypto and blockchain projects that are changing the world for better, I can say with certainty, that the crypto community does not consist solely of hard-right hyper capitalists. I mean…I’m certainly not one.

Through the launch of my new CryptoCharity series, I have been amazed to see the number of charities that have embraced crypto to bolster their donations and reach new populations. At first, I thought it would only be tech-based charities adopting crypto, but I was certainly wrong. Whether it’s a food bank, a dog rescue, a poverty reduction program, or anything in between, there are hundreds of diverse charities now accepting crypto donations, and that number is only growing.
