Ten NFT Projects and Collectives Disrupting Social Impact

2021 has been a year of incredible growth for NFTs, culminating on Tuesday December 7th with the first ever #NFTuesday, an initiative aimed at raising funds for a variety of charitable causes.

One of the more exciting developments in the NFT space, has been the purposeful social impact projects that have arisen. These projects have helped bring awareness and funding to many important social causes and have been another great example of the power of crypto and blockchain in contributing to social good.

For this blog post, we will be highlighting ten amazing projects, collectives, and organizations disrupting the social impact sector. These ten projects demonstrate some of the many inspiring use cases of NFTs in the social impact space.

 

1. Blazed Cats

Blazed Cats offers a series of Cat NFTs with a variety of customizations to make each one verifiably unique. 25% of mint profits go to Mental Health America, and each time a Blazed Cat is bought or sold, 100% of the secondary royalties, or 10% of the sale, goes to Mental Health America as well, which to date has amounted to over $300,000. Their royalty model allows for Mental Health America to generate recurring revenue for each secondary sale of the NFTs.

 

2. Women Rise NFT

Women Rise NFT is an NFT collection consisting of 10,000 unique art pieces representing a diversity of women from across the world. The project recognizes the amazing women activists, artists, scientists, and coders all over the world making the world a better place, while helping make the NFT space more inclusive and diverse. All pieces are created by Maliha Abidi, and artists and advocate for women’s rights, gender equality, and girl’s education.

 

3. ARTXV

ARTXV is a community of artists, allies, and collectors, promoting diversity in the NFT space by empowering neurodiverse artists. ARTXV shines a light on the amazing works of neurodiverse artists, raises awareness of neurodiversity, and helps neurodiverse artists achieve economic independence. ARTXV recently announced its partnership with Google Arts & Culture, the first of its kind for an NFT collective!

4. ChangeDAO

ChangeDAO believes that NTFs can be a driving force for social impact. They are a “decentralized application built on the ethereum blockchain and a global grassroots community aimed at leveraging social change art and NFTs as a force for change.” They have created the “Triple P NFT” model, in which every digital asset benefits multiple stakeholders: people, planet, profit. Each ChangeDAO NFT supports a worthy cause, and they are working hard to minimize energy consumption, and purchase carbon offsets to cover the energy used in the minting of their NFTs.

 

5. Kindred Hearts

Kindred Hearts is a collection of 7,777 generative NFTs, with contributions from over 50 artists being woven into nine layers of art in each NFT. Kindred Hearts partners with various charitable organization, with a portion of proceeds from each sale and secondary supporting them. To date, they have raised over $50,000 in support of numerous organizations including the American Heart Association, Upbring, Save the Children, and more!

6. Fast Food Punks

Fast Food Punks is a collection of 1,000 hand drawn, fast-food inspired NFT punks. Charitable giving is core to Fast Food Punks, and they recently held an auction for an honorary set of 26 Fast Food Punks, in which over $574,000 was raised for the Ronald McDonald House Charity, helping provide an estimated 6,000-night stays for families in need.

 

7. Ecosapiens

Ecosapiens styles itself as “the world’s first carbon-backed collectible”, with each NFT represented by unique humanoid artwork and is backed by 16 metric tonnes of CO2 (the average person’s annual CO2 emissions). Holders have the opportunity to “level up” their Ecosapien by infusing it with additional Carbon. As it levels up, the dynamic NFT transforms with additional traits and artwork, including “various flora, fauna, mineral, and technological elements, hybridizing the entire spectrum of Earth's biological kingdoms with human technology.”

8. Women and Weapons

Women and Weapons is a collection of 10,000 diverse women NFTs, with hundreds of attributes which make each verifiably unique. 5% of all proceeds raised through the project support The Malala Fund, an organization that supports equitable access to education for women around the world.

 

9. Untamed Elephants

Untamed Elephants is a mission-driven NFT project dedicated to saving African and Asian elephants. Half of the royalties from NFT sales are donated monthly to three non-profit partners supporting elephant conservation efforts, with over $75,000 being donated to date. Holders also have the opportunity to take part in international elephant rescue mission trips, with the first trip taking place in Sri Lanka.

10. Coral Tribe NFT

Coral Tribe is a “creative hub leveraging tech and art to invest in the natural world” They follow a Regenerative Finance model that aims to create value for Coral NFT holders and protect the natural environment. 50% of mint revenues go towards their community Impact Fund, that invests in projects which protect the natural world, and to date have raised over $1M and built a community of 15,000+.
