Crypto Charity Profile: Kumwe Hub

In this blog series, we highlight non-profits doing great work around the world that accept cryptocurrency donations. For this post, we are thrilled to highlight the amazing work being done by Save the Children Rwanda’s Kumwe Hub.

Kumwe Hub’s Mission

Kumwe Hub, an innovative project supported by Save the Children Rwanda, “is an African-based Impact Innovation Hub that allows Save the Children’s country offices to better engage with the technology and business sectors; amplifying impact for children and families in education, health, and protection.”

Kumwe Hub offers four programs to support their mission of investing in innovation for the next generation:

  • The Lab - Piloting ideas that maximize change for children

  • The Fund - Investing in businesses that benefit children

  • The Market Place - Building child-focused industries

  • The Consultancy - Equipping organizations to better serve children

Impacts

According to the Manager of the Kumwe Hub, Catherine Uwimana:

“From investing in local entrepreneurs who are tackling youth unemployment, to digitalizing school records for refugee children crossing borders, our aim is to maximize and direct new technologies to solve some of the biggest problems facing children in Africa today.”

Kumwe Hub currently has many exciting projects in the works, of which blockchain is central, including academic records for children crossing borders, digital IDs for refugees, and lending mechanisms for the financially excluded. One of their initiatives, called MicroWorks, “has engaged unemployed refugee youth to earn a living through collecting AI data with their mobile phones for payment.”

Kumwe Hub is at the intersection of innovative technology and social impact, and recently established a partnership with the Cardano Foundation to accept ADA donations to fund this vital work.
