3 - Inspiring crypto/blockchain quotes

“As revolutionary as it sounds, Blockchain truly is a mechanism to bring everyone to the highest degree of accountability. No more missed transactions, human or machine errors, or even an exchange that was not done with the consent of the parties involved. Above anything else, the most critical area where Blockchain helps is to guarantee the validity of a transaction by recording it not only on a main register but a connected distributed system of registers, all of which are connected through a secure validation mechanism.”

Ian Khan, Tech Futurist, Forbes and CNN Contributor

“I think the fact that within the bitcoin universe an algorithm replaces the function of the government… is actually pretty cool”

Al Gore, Former Vice President of the United States

“We see bitcoin as potentially the greatest social network of all.”

Tyler Winklevoss, Founder, Gemini Cryptocurrency Exchange

2 - Reflections from this week’s blog

One of the common criticisms of cryptocurrency and blockchain is that it is a technology that operates on the fringes of society and is only utilized by “shady super coders”. As I continue to conduct research into some of the amazing groups making use of blockchain and crypto, it is clear that this couldn’t be further from the truth. For example, this week I wrote an article on Satchel, a blockchain-based platform developed as a collaboration between UNICEF and Blockchain at Berkley, that is the University of California, Berkley. I’ve highlighted examples of large NGOs, Universities, governments, corporations, and more making use of this technology for social impact, and the list is growing by the day as more and more see the potential for this technology.

I’m continually inspired by the inclusion that exists in the crypto and blockchain space, which again, goes against a prevailing narrative that there is a lack of diversity in the space. While there are certainly important gains to be made when it comes to diversity, it’s inspiring to see all the groups working hard to advance equity, diversity, and inclusion in the crypto community. This week I highlighted eight of these groups, but this was just barely scratching the surface.
